FAQ
What's the difference between marginal and effective tax rate?
Marginal = the rate on your next dollar of income (your top bracket). Effective = total tax paid Γ· total income (much lower). Someone 'in the 32% bracket' typically pays an effective rate of 18β22%.
Do tax bracket changes affect all my income?
No. Brackets are marginal β only income within each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate. Crossing a bracket boundary by $1 doesn't increase tax on previous dollars.
